Outline (in English)

This course invites students to read famous Japanese stories from the Taisho and Showa periods in English translation.

The goal of this course is to give students the opportunity of close-reading, bearing in mind how aspects of Japanese culture is rendered in English Language. Students will also present about their favorite author to the rest of the class.

The standard preparation and review time for this class is one hour per week.

Grading criteria is as follows: 40% Presentation, 30% Quiz, 30% Class Participation. Based on the grading criteria set by the instructor, students that successfully achieve 60% or more of course goals will be able to earn a passing grade for the course.
