Outline (in English)

The learning material in the class is songs with English lyrics. You will listen to them carefully, translate their lyrics and interpret the songs. Since any good pop tunes have some depth (e.g. bright tunes actually have dark or philosophical themes.), throughout this class you will be experiencing the culture and life of individuals in the English-speaking world.

Objectives
- Ability to listen to English lyrics of the songs
- Ability to reconstruct them into sentences and to translate them
- Ability to interpret the songs
- Ability to sing easy ones with appropriate English pronunciation
- Ability to make a presentation with correct English pronunciation
- Ability to raise a question in English
- Ability to give an answer to a question of your classmates in Engish
- Ability to understand a presentation of your classmates

Self-study
Self-study before and after a class takes an hour in total. Each song contains lyrics (of course!); you are required to reconstruct them into sentences and to translate them. Also, you are asked to interpret the song and to dig deep into it in terms of your (imagined or real) story. Preparation for your presentation includes writing a script, creating visual aids, and doing a rehearsal. Taking a vocabulary test during a semester is mandatory.

Methods of grading
- Presentation assignments 35%
- Performances in a class 35%
- Dictation assignments 20%
- Vocabulary test 10%

(You will fail the class with more than 3 absences. Being more than 30 min. late for a class amounts to an absence. Being late three times amounts to an absence.)
