Outline (in English)
This class is aimed at improving English skills acquired in freshmen's courses. Students will read articles and listen to conversations about various aspects of modern society. Through these language activities, students will deepen their understanding of our society and learn to express their opinions critically.

1. Students can read English passages accurately
2. Students can master necessary vocabularies and expressions for reading English passages.
3. Student understand English grammar.
4. Students get the knowledge about a variety of social problems.

University guidelines suggest preparation and review should be around an hour a week for a one-credit course.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
この授業では、1 年次に習得した四技能の英語運用能力をさらに伸張し、様々な国々の歴史と現状を扱った文章や会話の読解・聴解をすることで、現代社会についての理解を深めて批判的に分析した上で、英語で意見を発信する能力の涵養を目指します。

・英語でのコミュニケーションに必要な語彙・文法を習得する。
・社会問題など高度な内容のディスカッションに必要な英語のリーディング能力を身につける
・情報収集に必要な英語のリーディング能力を身につける
・私たちが生きる現代社会について理解し、正しい批評態度で英語での発信ができるようになる

授業の進め方と方法Method(s)（学期の途中で変更になる場合には、別途提示します。 /If the Method(s) is changed, we will announce the details of any changes. ）
2回で1章のペースで進めていきます。まず教科書のWarm Upに取り組み、授業で扱う内容に関する基礎知識を学びます。そして本文を英文の構造をしっかり確認しながら、読解を進めます。そして本文の読解後、教科書の練習問題を通じて、内容理解を深め、語彙の定着、リスニングエクササイス、話題に関して自分の意見を書くライティングを行ないます。
授業中に回収したライティングや中間テストは採点後講評または返却します。

unit 4～5を試験範囲とし、試験およびまとめ、解説を行ないます。
授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
事前に、知らない語彙について辞書を引き、教科書の本文を読んでくる。授業後は、間違えに気付いた箇所について確認し、語彙を覚える。
本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、合わせて1時間を標準とします。/University guidelines suggest preparation and review should be around an hour a week for a one-credit course.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
中間テスト40%、期末テスト40%、平常点20%で評価します。
4回以上欠席した場合には、原則として単位認定を行ないません。
