Outline (in English)

Through reading stories and doing exercises in the textbook “Exploring Japanese Culture through English”, which consists of 15 topics about Japan culture, students study how to read the sentences correctly, how to think about the topics critically and how to express their own opinions. When students read the sentences, they try to analyse sentence structures as precisely as possible. After completing each chapter, students have an achievement test on reading comprehension, English compositions and analysing the sentences in the chapter. During this term, students will have one or two presentations on the topics in the textbook. At the end of the course, students will be expected to improve their proficiency in reading, composition, speaking and listening, and to have a wider vocabulary of English. Students will be expected to spend at least 1 hour to prepare and review lessons. Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: term-end exam 40%, presentation and dictation 40%, exams for each unit and in-class contribution, 20%.
