Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Students will learn social and cultural issues of the United Kingdom (UK), while developing English communication skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Video clips will be used in addition to written materials. Based on a flipped learning model, students will prepare for each chapter prior to attending the class.

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
(1) Enhance the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening.
(2) Understand the social and cultural issues of present-day UK.
(3) Critically read and analyze English texts and present their thoughts and opinions on related issues in English.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Students are required to prepare for each class so that they can actively participate in class discussions. University guidelines suggest preparation and review are around an hour a week for a one-credit course.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Evaluation will be based on the following criteria:
Class participation/assignments 25%
Mid-semester examination 35%
Final examination 40%
More than 3 absences will result in failure of the course.
