Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
The aims of this course are:
1. To encourage students to further develop their English proficiency by drawing on what they have learned in English 1 and English 2.
2. To train students to learn how to think critically by examining closely various authentic materials offered in English, and thus to develop the ability to effectively express their own thoughts and opinions.
3. To introduce students to the connections between cultural icons and their social, economic and political context, focusing on specific keywords like 'Manga' and 'Anime'.
4. To provide students with an opportunity to participate in discussion, improving their presentational skills on a group or individual basis.
(Learning Objective)
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- acquire their basic skills and strategies for reading passages with accuracy.
- improve their reading speed and accuracy.
- develop their listening skills for watching most of popular American and British movies without subtitles.
- reinforce their writing skills for organizing thoughts and opinions logically.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
Students are expected to:
- spend at least one hour doing preparation and review of every course content.
- extend vocabulary more effectively by making their own vocabulary notebook.
(Grading Criteria /Policy)
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process:
13 weekly class assignments: 45%, final term assignment (Essay): 30%, and final term test: 25%.
Students will not be able to pass this course if they miss submitting more than 4 weekly class assignments except in extreme circumstances.
