Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
Students will further develop their English proficiency drawing on what they have learned in English 1 (reading, listening, and summarizing) and English 2 (speaking and writing).
[Learning objectives]
Students will improve their ability to learn about important issues from English sources, to think critically about them, and to express their own thoughts and opinions in English. Specifically, they will have chance to observe Japan in the global context.
[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Before each class meeting, students will be expected to have read a short article or watched an interview and submitted an online test to check the understanding. They will also be given writing and speaking assignments during the semester. The required study time is at least one hour for each class meeting.
[Grading criteria/Policy]
Grading will be decided based on in-class contribution (20%), preparation (10%), writing assignments (30%) and final test (40%).
