Outline (in English)

The aim of this course is to further develop students’ English proficiency by drawing on what they have learned in English 1 and English 2, integrating the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. The course is designed to help students to read essays on a wide range of issues and listen to short talks and conversations on a variety of related topics, thinking critically about the important issues in the world today and developing the ability to effectively express and exchange their own thoughts and opinions. Students will give a short presentation, integrating skills and knowledge acquired during the course and developing their confidence in English communication.

The goals are to develop the abilities to read, summarize and comment on the essays, grasp the main points of spoken materials, read aloud effectively, and communicate one's thoughts and opinions on various topics in speech and writing.

Completing assignments (preparation for the class, including reading the text, listening to a recording and answering questions) before each class meeting is essential. Students are expected to spend at least one hour per week preparing for and reviewing each class.

Grading criteria: active class participation, assignments and quizzes (50%), final examination (25%), final presentation (25%). In principle, no more than 3 absences per semester are allowed.
