Outline (in English)

Course outline: English 1 focuses on developing reading, listening, and summarizing skills. The textbook used in this class covers a wide range of topics from “College Life” to “Diversity.” Through reading the passages and working on the accompanying exercises, students will be able to increase their active vocabulary and improve their reading, listening, and writing skills, and gain intellectual knowledge required for university students.

Learning Objectives: By the end of the course, students should be able to acquire the skills mentioned above, mainly through practicing phrase reading, paragraph reading, summarizing and commenting on the reading passages (“Casual Reading” and “Academic Reading”) of each unit.

Learning activities outside of classroom: Students are expected to prepare for each class meeting by reading the passage (“Casual Reading” or “Academic Reading”) and working on the accompanying exercises.

Grading Policies: Grading will be decided based on review tests (40%) and the end-term exam (60%).
