Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
In this course, students will be introduced to various contemporary issues of Japan and the World through news reports in English. The news topics range widely from politics or economy to entertainment or sports, which help students understand contemporary issues in Japan and the world. Some students may think it is rather difficult to read news reports in English. But most of students know more or less about these topics, because these topics were reported in Japanese news media. I think it is easy for them to get the gist of the news reports. The topics help students realize how critical various problems facing Japan and the world are. By reading the news articles, students will keep in mind the logical relationships between paragraphs and get proper understanding of them. And students have to memorize frequently used words and phrases in English news reports. These words and phrases related with important topics are helpful for students willing to read or watch more news reports in English. I hope students can improve their English skills and get a better sense of various contemporary issues.
