Outline (in English)

Course outline: Students will read passages of multiple paragraphs necessary for different purposes. They learn how to comprehend the structure and the argument of the passage, acquire the knowledge and information they need, and grasp the writers’ intention and feelings. The course will also help students foster in English critical thinking skills and presentation skills. Students gain diverse perspectives to help them think creatively or make decisions. Such skills may help them to cope with society both locally and internationality. Students will also acquire the English proficiency necessary for communication based on the improvement of vocabulary and listening skills.

Learning Objective: By the end of the course, students should be able to do the following things. Students summarize the main point of the paper, round up the opinions and make a presentation in class. While respecting others’ thoughts and ideas, students learn the way of expressing themselves clearly and precisely. Students develop English oral and aural communication skills.

Learning activities outside of classroom: Before each class meeting, students will be expected to have read the relevant chapters from the text and complete the required assignments after each class meeting. Your required study time is at least one hour for each class meeting.

Grading Criteria/policies: Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: In class contribution (presentation in English) 70%: Evaluation of Hoppii’s assignment 20%: Short reports: 10%.
