Outline (in English)

Course Outline: Students will master fundamental English grammar, which will help them better understand the subjects and contexts of English texts. They will be required to build a basic level of English vocabulary necessary for reading texts. They will also learn some of the basic structures of English essays.
Learning Objectives: Studens will 1) learn some fundamental rules in English grammar; 2) understand the message and context of the text; 3) learn some of basic paragraph structures; 4) master how to consult dictionaries; 5) have a habit to study on the subjects referred in the texts; 6) master some of basic rules of pronunciation.
Learning Activities Outside of Classroom: Students must spend at least one hour for reviewing and preparing for each session, including an English vocabulary quiz. They should make an independent "English Learning" notebook of their own. They are also asked to read aloud unfamiliar words and phrases.
Grading Criteria/Policy: Written exam - 60%; Vocabulary quizes - 15%; Performance at each session - 25%. Students with 4 or more absences will lose their qualification for the unit of this course. Three days late are counted as one absence. Other penalties given during sessions are counted as days late.
