Outline (in English)

In recent years, various kinds of energy resources are attracting attention in connection with the interest in the growth and sustainability of modern civilization. To understand such topics, natural sciences play crucial roles. In this lecture, the actual state of use of fossil fuels on which modern civilization largely depend will be discussed to understand that such the fuels are on the crisis of exhaustion. In addition, some ideas that may bring sustainable civilization will be presented. Understanding chemistry fundamental to such topics is the aim of this lecture. Students should read the textbook as early as possible before a class and are encouraged advanced reading on the basis of their own interest after a class. The study time will be more than two hours. The overall grade in the class will be decided based on the term-end examination (100 %).
