Outline (in English)
< Course outline >
We will study major empirical methods and papers in Development Economics.
As the major empirical methods, we will study difference in difference, regression discontinuity design, and instrument variable method.
We will study papers using these empirical methods and analyzing questions related to human capital, credit, market, and institution.
< Learning Objectives >
We will try to become able to understand the empirical methods in journal articles. We will try to become able to look for research paper idea keeping the empirical methods in our minds.
< Learning activities outside of classroom >
Before each class, we will read assigned article, on which class slides are based.
After each class, if needed, we will review class materials by ourselves.
We expect 2 hours for preparing for each class and 2 hours to review class materials by ourselves after class.
If we need to have online classes for combating infectious diseases, we will take online mini test or assignment after each class.
< Grading Criteria/Policies >
We will make class grade based on the following factors and weights: mid-term exam 40%; end-term exam 40%; participation 20%.

Outline and objectives
Goal
Which item of the diploma policy will be obtained by taking this class?
