Outline (in English)

< Course outline >
We studied Statistics and regression analysis in Econometrics A.
We will study Micro-Econometrics as the 2nd part of regression analysis.
When we cannot remove omitted variable bias with a basic multiple regression, we can use panel data and fixed effect estimation.
When we pursue causality rather than correlation, we can use instrument variable method, difference-in-difference analysis, and regression discontinuity design.
We will study regression analysis when the dependent variable is a binary or discrete variable rather than a continuous variable and when there is censoring and sample selection.
< Learning Objectives >
We will try to become able to understand the empirical methods in journal articles. We will try to become able to look for a research paper idea keeping the empirical methods in our minds.
< Learning activities outside of classroom >
Before each class, we will read assigned article, on which class slides are based.
After each class, if needed, we will review class materials by ourselves.
We expect 2 hours for preparing for each class and 2 hours to review class materials by ourselves after class.
< Grading Criteria/Policies >
We will make class grade based on the following factors and weights: mid-term exam 40%; end-term exam 40%; participation 20%.
