Outline (in English)

In this subject we will learn about atoms, radiation, optics, electromagnetism, aurora, interplanetary space, interstellar space, life of the sun and cosmology. A small atom is a component of the great universe and knowledge about atoms is essential to learning the universe. We will learn how small atoms are connected to the big universe.
It is wonderful that an invisible atom is connected to the stars shining on our head. Optics and electromagnetism are important fields of physics. In this lecture, I will explain some phenomena occurring in outer space based on knowledge of optics and electromagnetism. Knowledge of physics can also be applied to far away space. We also learn that the phenomena occurring in the universe have an impact on us living on Earth.
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. There will be no regular exams, but grades will be evaluated based on quizzes (70%) and class participation (comment sheets, 30%).
