Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
Learn about the nature, function, and role of the nation. Specifically, this paper takes up the theory on "democracy" of "citizen" and political system as well as the transition of state theory which has appeared in history, taking into consideration the concepts of rule, obedience and nation defined by Max Weber. The purpose of this study is to clarify the students’ views by comparing them with their own views on "nation," "citizen," and "democracy". (Learning Objectives)
・The basic concepts of political sociology can be logically presented and discussed in one’s own words.
・The transition of the theory of nation in modern times can be understood in the historical context.
・To enhance sociological understanding of political conflicts.

(Learning activities outside of classroom)
Since materials such as resumes and reference materials are distributed in advance, grasp the content of the lesson as a preparatory lesson and review it after the lesson. ・Two hours of advanced study: study concepts and read textbooks and references in advance. ・2 hours of post-course learning: Organize notes, look up textbooks, and read related literature.

(Grading Criteria /Policy)
Final exams (50%), preparation and review tasks (30%) and participation in biweekly group discussions (20%).
