Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
What is art?" is to delve into the depths of contemporary society. The course will examine the relationship between art and culture over approximately 100 years. In particular, we will discuss the major trends from the end of the 19th century to the 1970s, the two world wars of the 20th century that significantly impacted world art trends, and the economic powerhouse of the United States in the latter half of the 20th century. Contemporary art will also examine how the art market fluctuated and created a great swell in capitalist society and mass consumer culture.

[Learning Objectives]
While unravelling the universality and authenticity of art that has continued uninterruptedly since ancient times, students will learn the actual value of art, which has created new aesthetic senses and ideas. By reexamining the definition of art and reading it in a social context, we will explore the authenticity of art.
