Outline (in English)

Course outline: This course outlines the constitution of the Athenian democracy and the Roman republic. Not only analyzing them individually but also comparing each other to identify their characteristics, it also helps students learn the usefulness of comparative history.
Learning Objectives: The followings are the goals of this course.
- Students are able to acquire fundamental knowledge concerning the constitution of the Athenian democracy and the Roman republic.
- Students are able to explain similarities and differences between them.
- Students are able to understand the significance of comparing them each other.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. They are required to read relevant books, such as those listed in the reference section, and learn by themselves.
Grading Criteria: Grading will be decided based on term-end examination (80%) and in-class contribution (20%).
