Outline (in English)

This course introduces ancient Greek philosophy, especially the philosophy of Socrates and Plato, to students taking this course.
By the end of the course, students should be able to understand the followings:
1. Differences in thought between Socrates and his opponents.
2. The meaning of Plato's theory of ideas in the history of philosophy.
3. The grounds for the possibility of common understanding on values.
4. How to overcome relativism, skepticism and the moral crises caused by them.
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: Term-end examination (60%), Short reports (30%) and Contribution in class (10%).
