Outline (in English)

In this class, we read the original book of "Nishiki Hyakunin Isshu Azuma Ori" https://dl.ndl.go.jp/info:ndljp/pid/2533227 with ukiyo-e. Hyakunin Isshu has been loved by people, and recently it has gained recognition as a sport. We will read Hyakunin Isshu which was made in the Edo period, and learn about the interpretation of waka and the singer drawn.
The main goal of this lesson is to read and interpret waka (the hirakana part and its character) written in cursive script.
About the waka poems that each person is in charge of
1: Transliterate while checking the character
2: Interpret (meaning and technique),
We will consider and present from these two points, understand the formation of the text, and deepen our knowledge of waka.
Students will be assigned a waka poem to be shared by the instructor. Students are requested to submit the transliteration, reading comprehension, and interpretation of the waka poems that they share by the designated date. Please read each of the waka poems other than the division. We will exchange opinions on the content of the presentation based on each person's reading comprehension.
Bring the materials (distributed prints) necessary for reading the cursive script every time and read them before class. It takes 2 hours to read the text and 2 hours to check and review the waka characters used in the class.
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process
Mid-term report (30%), in-class contribution (40%), and term-end examination (30%)
However, if there is no transliteration of the shared waka poem, unsubmitted reading comprehension / interpretation, and no exchange of opinions regarding the content of the presentation, it will not be evaluated.
