Outline (in English)

Theme: Japanese literature and folklore
This class is same as "Literature and Society LA"by Kaji. However, the specific content is different as described in the "Class Plan". The content focuses on the "folk" (= folklore) part rather than A. A close-up introduction to the festivals and beliefs of the remote islands of Okinawa, which still retains the character of the mother of "literature" and is considered to be an important hint when considering the "ancientity" of Japanese literature. If I have more time, I would like to consider the role of festivals and linguistic tradition in the sustainable regional formation that make use of traditional culture.

Goal
This lecture aims at the following two goals
・ Compared to general literary research, students can broaden your horizons by learning about the characteristics and significance of folklore-based methods of viewing literature.
・ As the subject name indicates, students can learn an example of an interdisciplinary approach by touching on fields dealing with the integrated area of the humanities and social sciences.

Work to be done outside of class
The standard preparatory study and review time for this class is 2 hours each. We also encourage you to visit traditional events in the area by learning about the relationship between classical literature and "folklore".

Grading criteria
Final exam 85%. Others (questions, content of reaction papers sometimes asked, etc.) 15%
