Outline (in English)

1) Hard class = In this class, you will learn French poetry and criticism from a philosophical perspective. You will be required to write and submit a considerable reaction paper each time. This class is perfect for students who really want to study and who actively participate in class.
2) Philosophical perspective = Idea of beauty, modernity, classical aesthetics, usefulness, etc.
3) Poetry and painting criticism = Specifically, we will deal with the poetry and painting criticism of French poet Baudelaire. We will also learn about works belonging to the Louvre Museum.
4) Overview of the spring semester: After learning about the history and culture of Paris, we will read some of Baudelaire's masterpieces from his collection of poems, ``The Flowers of Evil,'' and then move on to his art criticism.
5) Further purpose: We will also study the Baudelaire theories of Georges Bataille, who is the leader of modern Western thought.

Through this course students are expected to get knowledge to appreciate analytically and critically literary and artistic works.
Students should read beforehand relevant works. They need also to submit an assignment after having studied each work, for which they must spend at least four hours.
Final grade will be calculated according to the total score of reaction papers (50%)and final report (50%).
