Outline (in English)

【Course outline】 We will read "Makuranosoushi," one of the most representative works of Heian period literature in the history of Japan classical literature, focusing on the chapters written about the author's relationship with the people around him.
【Learning Objectives】In depicting the relationship between the author SeiShonagon and her master, Empress Teishi, her family, and the male aristocracy, what was the purpose of "Pillow Song"? I would like to think about the establishment, the value of the work, the impact, etc.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
The 4,000-word end-of-semester report on the theme of the character of the pillow grass is almost 100% of the evaluation.
Attendance at each meeting is 50% attendance to qualify for report submission.
The point of evaluation is whether the essay based on the appropriate reading of the work is written clearly and in an easy-to-understand manner within the range of the set theme, and whether the theory is somehow original.
