Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Taking a look at Minamoto Yoshitune and Benkei who gained popularity as a tragic hero in the Middle Ages, they are drawn by classical literary works such as "Heiji Monogatari", "Gikeiki" and "Otogisoushi" and classical performing arts such as Noh and Kabuki Comparing people and their changes, we will clarify how the author tries to express ideal images that people asked through their works. Through these considerations, consider various legends behind the formation of literary works and the role that literary works played in the legendary dissemination.
【Learning Objectives】
Be able to understand, and explain the contents of Yoshitsune and Benkei legends. You can think about how people thought about creating and spreading these legends, and enjoy the fun of classical literature and entertainment.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
As a preparatory study, read the prints carefully in advance to understand the approximate contents of the stories to be taken up in class. As a review, I will try to find out what I wondered in class. Many books on Minamoto no Yoshitsune have been published, so read some of them so that you can understand the situation of Yoshitsune and Benkei from various angles. The standard preparation / review time for this lesson is 4 hours per lesson.
【Grading Policy】
The score of the assignment report submitted after each class (50%) and the score of the term-end report (50%) that reports the results of investigating and considering the Yoshitsune legend by setting its own theme are combined. Perform grade evaluation.
