Outline (in English)

【授業の概要(Course outline)】
The purpose of this course is to improve practical competence in teaching based on the basic knowledge of junior high school social studies and high school civics in "Methods of Teaching Social and Civics Studies (1)". In particular, students will learn how to design lessons based on various theories of learning and teaching, assuming specific classroom situations, and develop a foundation of practical skills for teaching social studies and civics through mock classes. Through this course, students will learn the theory of objectives, academic ability, teaching materials, and teaching methodology with a comprehensive view of social studies and civics, and we hope that students will acquire both theoretical and practical skills. The aim is to develop teachers with practical skills in social studies and civics education.
【到達目標(Learning Objectives)】
The following four points are defined as the goals of this class.
1. To understand the importance of teaching design based on students' actual conditions and its methodology.
2. Understand the effective use of ICT and teaching materials according to the characteristics of junior high school social studies and senior high school civics, and be able to apply them to teaching design and practice.
3. Be able to design lessons and create lesson plans based on specific classroom situations.
4. Be able to analyze classroom practice appropriately and consider specific points for improvement in teaching materials, questioning, blackboard writing, learning methods, etc., in order to create better classes.
【授業時間外の学習(Learning activities outside of classroom)】
The following five points should be kept in mind for pre-study (preparatory study) and post-study (review and homework).
1. As pre-study, students are expected to carefully read the designated sections of the textbook, complete the preparatory part of the worksheet, and diligently prepare and work on the course materials.
2. as post-assignments, students are expected to work on the assignments for each class and submit a report on the assignments by the next class, as well as a final assignment (to develop their own teaching materials).
3. Students will be expected to follow and understand current political and economic news on a daily basis.
4. Students are required to read a civics textbook in junior high school social studies.
5. 2 hours of pre-course work and 2 hours and 30 minutes of post-course work are required.
【成績評価の方法と基準(Grading Criteria /Policy)】
Overall evaluation will be based on class participation and contribution (15%), post-class study assignments (including reflection sheets) from the first to the fourteenth class meeting (25%), preparation and implementation of group study and lesson plans (30%), and final assignment (preparation of individual study and lesson plans) (30%).
