Outline (in English)

This series of lectures presents the current state of Japan's involvement in international cooperation with developing countries. It introduces the framework of international cooperation, examples and life experiences by examining cultural differences. The focus is on official development assistance (ODA) carried out by the Japanese government. A group project that reviews and presents a professional report prepared by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) of their choice is required in addition to regular attendance. Through this group preparation, students will attain the basic skills, knowledge, and approach necessary for a professional career while strengthening his/her global perspective.
1. Understand the current situation of developing countries and the activities of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which is the implementing agency for Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA), and learn about career development in the case of working overseas in the future.
2. Understand the reality of studying abroad.
3. Form groups of 6 to 8 students to investigate the JICA report and present its contents and opinions. Through this group work, students will improve three basic abilities of working adults (the ability to step forward, to think things through, and to work in a team), as well as deepen our understanding of ODA, improve the ability to write reports, create power points, and make presentations.
4. After group work, by summarising their thoughts on international cooperation in the assigned report, students will develop the ability to look abroad broadly and utilize the results of their studies from a global perspective after graduation.
Investigation of JICA reports and preparation of PowerPoint and reports.
The standard time for preparation and review for this class is two hours each.
