Outline (in English)

【Course outline】The main purpose of this course is to improve students’ reading skills in English through reading various essays.
【Learning Objectives】By the end of the course, students should be able to do the following: (1) widen their vocabulary. (2) improve their grammar skills. (3) understand phonetic symbols. (4) speak English with accurate pronunciation.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】Before each class meeting, Students must read assigned chapter passages and complete exercises from the text using dictionaries. Your required study time is at least one hour for each class meeting.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following: assignments 40%, term-end examination 60%

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives

本科目は英語の読解力の向上を主な目的とする。学生は様々な分野のエッセイを精読することにより、英語の文法と語彙力を培う。

到達目標Goal

学生が英文読解に必要な語彙と文法事項を学修し、辞書を使いながら自分の力で英文の内容を正確に理解できるようになる。
英語の発音記号を学び、英語らしいイントネーションを身につけることにより正しい音読ができるようになる。

学生は毎回発音記号を学び、英語の音声を聞き分けて正しく発音する訓練を行う。
英文読解のために必要な文法事項を確認した上で、語彙力を強化する問題や内容理解問題に取り組む。
各ユニットのトピックについて、ペアあるいはグループで英語のディスカッションを行う。
