Outline (in English)
The aim of this class is to help students learn skills such as discerning the main and supporting ideas of reading selections through classroom activities. In addition, students will practice dialogues in listening and speaking activities to improve their pronunciation, intonation, and comprehension.
[Learning Objectives]
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the
followings:
― Acquire fundamentals of English 4 skills; Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
― Understand how to connect English texts.
― Develop critical thinking skills.

for self-study both preview and review. Be sure to review what
has been said during class to prepare yourself for next class.

40%: Participation in class activities.

この授業では、リーディング・リスニング・スピーキング・ライティングの4技能を文法の橋渡しによって有機的に学ぶ。
到達目標Goal
英文の典型的な構造を理解し、メインアイディアと、それを補強するサポーティングアイディアの連携と展開を理解することができる。また、英文や会話文について、発音やイントネーションに着目し学習することによって、音声面からも英語として自然な表現を身に着けることができる。

学期を前半後半に分け、節目にレビュー回を設定し、学生の理解度に合わせて以下の基本パターンで進める。
テキストの構成は、各ユニット共通してListening Section, Reading Section, Speaking Section, Writing Sectionの順になっているが、本授業ではListeningおよびSpeaking Sectionから始めウォーミングアップとする。次にReading Sectionで講読と問題練習を行い、Writing Sectionでユニットの学習項目の仕上げと定着を行う。

春学期のふりかえりとまとめを行う
授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
各ユニットのListening Tipsでは定義や要点が説明されているので、予習の際、要点に従って聞き取りや発話練習を繰り返し行うこと。Reading Sectionの英文はListening Tipsでの説明に基づき必ず音読をし、単語・イディオムで分からないものは調べること。付属のCDを活用し、聞き取りにおいても文脈から把握できるように繰り返すこと。また、初出で不正解だった問題や根拠なく解答した問題については必ず復習すること。予習には60分、復習には60分を掛けることを目安とする。

参考書References
英和辞典（紙・電子）。なお、スマートフォンの辞書アプリは学習向けに不十分であることから、教室での使用を禁じる。不要の行為は授業参加態度（成績評価の方法と基準参照）から減点する。
成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
①授業参加態度40％ 演習活動が毎回の授業を形成する。したがって、欠席・遅刻はもとより、授業に出席している「だけ」では評価対象とならない。②試験40％ ③課題や小テスト20％ 以上３点を勘案して、総合的に評価する。

「文法をていねいに説明してもらったことで、理解が深まった。」「英語に対する考え方が変わった。」という好意的な意見を励みに、ひきつづき学生主体の授業づくりを心掛けたい。
