Outline (in English)

This class aims to deepen your understanding of modern and contemporary Japanese history. The class captures modern and contemporary Japanese history with a focus on diplomacy, politics and economy. During the lessons, students will learn the flow of history from the perspective of how Japan pioneered in living in the each period of its history, namely the last years of the Edo period, the Meiji, Taisho, Showa eras and after World War II. In the first half of the each lesson, students will be enrolled with the basic learning (learning basic knowledge of modern and contemporary Japanese history; a quiz to confirm). In the second half of the lesson, students will conduct activities (pair talks, group discussions, oral presentations on contemporary topics and issues related to the theme). While the lessons will be conducted in an easy-to-understand Japanese language for International students, it is recommended that the students have passed the N1 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
