Outline and objectives

IMPROVING YOUR ENGLISH WITH AN INTERESTING APPROACH AS DESCRIBED BELOW

Goal

The purpose of this course is to provide students with an active approach to increasing their critical thinking skills in English through reading, speaking and listening.

Students receive feedback (by email for online classes, or handwritten on the submitted assignment for in-person classes) as follows on each assignment they submit; the teacher evaluates their work with a letter grade as well as written comments on their work and suggestions for any improvements needed. The plan is to have students do the readings before they come to class. Random questions will be asked to ensure this. Students must have a dictionary in all classes and be prepared to participate.

Students must have their textbooks and an electronic or standard English/Japanese dictionary in all classes.

Grading criteria

Participation and completing homework = 60% Oral quizes = 40%
Without a train delay slip students will be counted absent if more than 15 minutes late. Maximum of 3 absences.
