Outline (in English)
Our lives are made up of communication in many different forms. We communicate with people around us not only through verbal language, but also through other forms of communication as well. The ability to communicate effectively is important in university study and in professional life. Differences in culture often have an effect on the way in which we communicate with each other. News and current events are also communicated to us through media such as newspapers, television and the Internet. These concepts will be discussed in this subject.

Our lives are made up of communication in many different forms. We communicate with people around us not only through verbal language, but also through other forms of communication as well. The ability to communicate effectively is important in university study and in professional life. Differences in culture often have an effect on the way in which we communicate with each other. News and current events are also communicated to us through media such as newspapers, television and the Internet. These concepts will be discussed in this subject.
到達目標Goal
This course combines both theory and practice, and provides an overview of the different aspects of human communication. We will cover fundamental theories to explain features of interpersonal relationships, groups, organizational relationships, cultural diversity, cultural attitudes, groups and persuasion, mass media, and the effects of the media on receivers. Students will learn to question why some forms of communication work and why others fail. Individual, social and technological aspects of communication are examined from theoretical and practical points of view.

Classes will consist of a series of short lectures and other visual materials, followed by group and class discussions on the concepts covered in the lectures. In addition, students will be required to prepare for class by reading assigned articles on the topics of the following class.Feedback on assignments submitted by students will be provided in class or through the Learning Management System.Please note that the teaching approach may vary according to which threat level we are at. The details will be announced through the Learning Management System.

Students need to prepare for and review each session by using textbooks, references, and distributed materials.
Students are expected to read reference materials for the next class. In addition, they need to write online forum postings after each class for review purposes. Therefore, students are expected to take about four hours for preparation and review a class.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
Students are expected to participate actively in class. Assessment is based on weekly class participation, writing online forum postings, presentations and written assignments. Students will not be assessed on their English language skills, but rather on their knowledge of the content of the classes. Assessment will consist of in-class participation (forum) (30%), a presentation (20%), a take-home exam (20%) and a written assignment(30%). Note that if you miss 4 classes or more, you cannot pass this subject.

There were no particular requirements for this course from students. However, I would like this course to enable students to apply what they learnt in class to their daily lives through questioning general phenomena in their lives.
