授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
This is a content based course aimed at helping
students improve their confidence and skills in overall English
communication as well as to increase their knowledge of American
culture and society.
到達目標Goal
The goal of this course is to increase fluency,
accuracy and confidence in the areas of speaking,listening, reading
and writing. Students will also learn about the inner workings
of American businesses and companies from the viewpoint of
the workers and their CEOs and how those businesses impact
American culture and society.

Each week students will see "real life" business dealings by way of "Undercover Boss", an American reality show. As they watch, students will complete a listening comprehension worksheet and take notes about different aspects of the company, the workers and the CEO. After each program, students will participate is discussions and do activities related to that specific episode. This class incorporates Active Learning and task based activities.
Students will receive written comments and a score for all assignments and presentations. This will be done for weekly reports submitted on HOPPI.

Each week, students will be asked to prepare for the upcoming class. This will include activities such as: researching a specific topic, brainstorming, writing a report and/or preparing for discussions and presentations

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
Students will be evaluated based on weekly homework (40%), classroom activities such as: listening comprehension worksheets, note taking, participation in discussions (40%), and presentations (20%). In principle, no more than 3 absences will be permitted per semester to receive academic credit for the course.
