Outline and objectives

While exercising the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English in an integrated manner, you will be exposed to artistic expressions of social activism in the world. You will learn the language presented in the works as well as the messages conveyed through the activism and its social, historical, and political backgrounds. You will also have a chance to consider the relationship between art and social activism, namely, the role that various forms of art plays in maintaining, restoring, regaining, or enhancing human rights in the world.

Goal

This course is designed to develop your English proficiency further as you learn about various cultural and social practices of the English-speaking world. You will also learn to think critically about important issues that surround us today and develop the ability to effectively express your own ideas, feelings, and opinions. The main goal is communication, not translation or accuracy. You will become aware of some issues related to human rights and able to express your ideas and questions about them in English. You will also gain an enhanced understanding of global cultures.
