The lessons will be given in English and online via Zoom given the on-going Covid-19 crisis. Important information will be distributed via HOPPII, and the notifications will be sent to your *Hosei email address*. Students have opportunities to ask questions, give opinions, and voice concerns etc both in class and in a post-lesson questionnaire conducted after each lesson. Grading criteria

Students will be assessed based on the following criteria:
Class participation: 25%
Homework and quizzes: 35%
Presentations & an essay: 40%
Please note that any student who misses the equivalent of more than 3 classes will not pass this course except in extreme circumstances. Please also note that absence does not excuse students from doing homework. When absent, students are also responsible for obtaining information etc by contacting the teacher and/or other students and for coming back to class in the following week with all the preparation done.

Changes following student comments

Although conducted online, this course seems to have enabled students to enjoy "talking" to each other in English, make friends, and develop a sense of community through its many communicative activities. Students also felt discussion, presentation, and essay writing skills very useful, and the topics interesting.

Equipment student needs to prepare

A computer (preferable) or a mobile phone is necessary to attend our Zoom lessons. A headset is needed to avoid audio feedback if you take the lesson/s on campus. Students are also required to use slides (e.g. PowerPoint) for their presentations and to submit written assignments using word-processing software (e.g. Word).
