Outline (in English)

The goal of this course is to enhance the students' reading and listening skills. By the end of the course, they will have become more active and independent learners of English and will be able to find suitable learning materials for themselves. In order to reach this goal, in class, students will read a lot, listen a lot and think a lot. Also, depending on the nature of the text and the purpose of its reading, students will read quickly or attentively. It will allow students to learn when to use a dictionary and when not to. Some students may think their textbook is a little too challenging in the beginning, partly because all the writing is in English. To beat this kind of stress, they have only to come to class well prepared (self-study is vital!), so they will get the most out of the textbook. Students who study a lot outside of class are likely to be actively engaged in their class activities. In other words, they are ‘mentally present' in the classroom.
