Outline (in English)

A variety of microorganisms exist in natural environments, such as soil and water ecosystems. These microorganisms play important roles in the key element cycles in the environments, being indispensable to maintain the homeostasis of the earth. In addition, they have various influences on the survival of plants and animals. In this class, I lecture on microbial ecology including the classification of microbes, symbiosis of microbes with plants and animals, microbes in extreme environments, culture-independent analyses of microbes, possible use of microbes for environmental problems.
