Outline (in English)

Many of the macroscopic properties of materials are defined by the microscopic structure of the material. In particular, spatial symmetry such as translation, rotation, reversal, etc. is an important aspect in solid state physics. This course introduces the basic elements of crystal symmetry and its application to the electromagnetic theory of anisotropic medium. This course will focus on the basic concept of crystal optics and the characteristic behavior of light propagation in anisotropic medium.
