Outline (in English)

High voltage and discharge phenomena are Learnt. For example, air, oil and plastic behave as insulating materials (nonconductors) with "normal" voltage application and do not carry current. However, when a sufficiently "high" voltage is applied, dielectric breakdown and discharge phenomena occur with large current path, like lightning. This phenomenon is theoretically learnt by understanding the impact ionization phenomenon in gaseous materials, together with phenomena in liquid and solid materials. Generation and measurement techniques are important from the viewpoint of utilizing high voltage. High voltage is roughly divided into three waveforms, DC, AC, and impulse. Generation and measurement methods corresponding to these waveforms are learnt. In addition, the structure, diagnostic methods and technology trends of some high voltage power equipment, are briefly learnt.
