Outline (in English)

[Japanese culture as a myth]
Myths are the universal pattern of a story, but also the principle of explanation of the world. From a formal point of view, myth is a combination of abstract narrative progressions that eliminates the aspect of imitation of reality. From a content standpoint, myth can be thought of as a story of human origin, justified violence, and extraordinary events such as birth and death.

On the other hand, myths are constantly occurring in Japan today. Myth is an ongoing event.

From this perspective, the purpose of this class is to interpret Japanese culture as a myth. He plans to focus on entertainment works such as movies, comics and animations.

Participants are required to submit assignments for each lesson, participate in group work, make presentations for each group, submit reports four times, and final assignments. Active participation in class discussions is also often required.
