Outline (in English)
To help students enjoy speaking English. Students will improve their speaking skills and enhance their confidence in conversations, small group discussions and short talks.

We will develop and improve your oral communication skills. You will practise talking about news topics, giving and asking for opinions and agreeing and disagreeing. Students will practise speaking English in pairs and small groups and participate in short small group talks.
到達目標Goal
At the end of the course, students should have improved their oral communication
skills and confidence when speaking English. They should
show some understanding of how to give and ask for opinions and agree
and disagree politely in English.

We will use worksheets and adapted real world news stories in a communicative
and enjoyable way. You will work in pairs, in groups and with
the class. You will practise making short talks and simple presentations
on news topics of your choice. Feedback on assignments will be provided on an ongoing in-class basis and via Google Classroom (students will be asked to submit work on Google Classroom).

Students study the course outline and review asking for and giving opinions.
Week#2:Getting to know you/news topic selection.
Students introduce themselves and
ask and answer basic questions. Students practise giving simple
opinions.
Week#3:News Topic 1: Worksheet; warm-up exercises,
brainstorming and giving opinions.
Students brainstorm topic related
vocabulary, read a news article and practice giving opinions.
Week#4:News Topic 1 + Short
Talk & Presentation Skill: Structuring a talk.
Students learn how to structure a short talk. Students prepare a short talk on a news story in small groups.
Week#5:News Topic 1: Small
Group Presentations
on topic 1.
Students give a short
talk/presentation on a news story in a small group and receive feedback from their
peers.
Week#6:News Topic 2: Worksheet; warm-up exercises,
brainstorming and asking for opinions.
Students brainstorm topic related
vocabulary, write and practice questions asking for opinions.
Week#7:News Topic 2 + Short
Talk and Presentation
skill: Using your voice.
Students practice using their voices focusing on rhythm and intonation
and projection. Students prepare a short talk/presentation on a news story.
Week#8:News Topic 2: Small
Group Presentations
on topic 2.
Students give a short
talk/presentation on a news story in a small group and receive feedback from their
peers.
Week#9:News Topic 3:Worksheet; warm-up exercises,
brainstorming and agreeing with an opinion.
Students brainstorm topic related
vocabulary and learn how to agree with opinions. Students take part in a whole class mixer activity.
Week#10:News Topic 3 + Short
Talk and Presentation
skills: Eye contact, gestures and body language.
Students practise making eye contact, using gestures and appropriate body language. Students prepare a short talk/presentation on a news story in a small group.
Week#11:News Topic 3: Small
Group Presentations
on topic 3.
Students give a short
talk/presentation on a news story in a small group and receive feedback from their
peers.
Week#12:News Topic 4: Worksheet; warm-up exercises,
brainstorming and disagreeing with opinions.
Students brainstorm topic related
vocabulary, write opinions and practice politely disagreeing with opinions.
Week#13:News Topic 4 + Short
Talk and Presentation
skill: Handling questions on agreement and disagreement.
Students practice handling friendly and hostile questions and prepare a short talk/presentation on a news story in a small group.

Group Presentations
on topic 4. Final Review activities.
Students give a short
talk/presentation on a news story in a small group and receive feedback from their peers. Completion of final review activities.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
Homework (20%) In-class participation including participation in pairwork
activities, small group discussions, short talks and small group
presentations (50%). Participation in speaking review activities (30%).
Homework assignments, regular attendance and active participation in
class activities are required in order to pass the course.
