Outline (in English)

This course is split into two sections: The first section covers other topics of domestic politics that are not covered in the Spring semester such as the relationship between media and politics, and between a state government and local government. The second section introduces the essence of international relations, the historical development of the nation-state system, and relevant theories developed for explaining war and peace. Specifically, we address the following questions: What is a sovereign state? How has it been developed? What is the essential difference between domestic politics and international politics? Why does a state keep building military power? What is the role of the international regime such as the United Nations? In addressing these questions, we illustrate those relevant concepts and theories through the actual cases in history as many as possible. At the completion of this course, students will have: (1) the understanding of not just the basic nature of international politics but also varieties of theory explaining interactions between states, (2) the analytical thinking skills to not just apply relevant theories to the actual cases and generate plausible policy implication to deal with its problem, but also find out the pitfalls of the existing theories.
