Outline (in English)

This course introduces the basic concepts of political science, historical development, and relevant theories developed for explaining domestic political processes. Particularly, we address the following questions: What is politics? What characterizes democracy and autocracy? What is the electoral system and are there any differences among democratic countries? How do those varieties affect political consequences? What factors specify the presidential system and the parliamentary system? We also cover the roles of an interest group, a local government, and media. In addressing these questions, we illustrate those relevant concepts and theories through actual cases across the world. At the completion of this course, students will have: (1) an understanding of not just the basic nature of politics but also varieties of the political system and the logic of political decision-making, (2) analytical thinking skills not just to apply relevant theories to actual political cases, but also to find out any drawback of the existing theories. No prerequisites are required for this course.
