This course will train intermediate and higher level students (CEFR B1+) to more effectively engage in the various components of their university studies.

The goal of the course will be to help students raise their academic related competency in speaking,listening reading and writing.

The course will combine lectures with individual and group study. The course will also apply these learnings to a practical presentation project. All feedback and correspondence for assignments will be done through Google Classroom and through face-to-face assignments.

Week 1:Course Introduction
Course outline, Assessment criteria. Self-introductions.
Week 2:Listening for position
Identifying support arguments in a lecture.
Week 3:Speaking in seminar discussions. Project introduction
Note taking and using reporting verbs. Introducing term project.
Week 4:Reading and note taking plus project work.
Identifying main ideas in texts and work on main project.
Week 5:Note taking and summarizing. Project work.
Determining a clear focus for notes and working on main project.
Week 6:Listening to lectures. Project work.
Completing notes for lectures and working on main project.
Week 7:Speaking about main idea of text. Project work.
Finding main stance and offering opinions and working on main project.
Week 8:Textbook source analysis. Project work.
Identifying and evaluating sources or an essay and working on main project.
Week 9:Listening for note-taking strategies. Project work.
Using abbreviations and symbols and working on main project.
Week 10:Sharing ideas in study group. Project work.
Discussing and evaluating learning and assessment methods and working on main project.
