Outline (in English)

The first half of each course meeting provides an overview of theoretical aspects of English language teaching (ELT). The topics to be dealt with include the history of ELT in Japan and of teaching methodologies, learner-centered theories, second language acquisition, teaching English as an international language, intercultural understanding, the Course of Study, and lesson plans. The second half of each course meeting focuses on practice aspects of English language teaching (ELT). The topics are directly linked to classroom instruction, including: the teaching of four skills for communicative ELT, grammar and vocabulary instruction, ELT in elementary, junior high, and senior high schools, early childhood ELT, and assessment.
