授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
Since the 1980s, new relationships have developed between sport and the media. From an observer of the sports system, the media, especially television, have become actors in the sport system. This development is illustrated in the lecture with case studies (football, biathlon, handball, winter sports, etc.) and later systematized. In an analytical part, the scope and staging forms of sports reporting (on television) in various European countries are empirically analyzed. Special consideration will be given to the Tokyo 2020/21 Olympic Games.

6:Winter sports I: Four Hills Tournament – the formula 1 of winter sports
Regardless of international championships (World Championships, etc.), the so-called Four Hills Tournament in ski jumping (a series of competitions on four different ski jumps) has been the absolute highlight of coverage of winter sports for 70 years. Only three athletes could win all four jumps of one year. The lecture presents this event and its media processing, and also deals with highlights from Alpine skiing.
Literature: online ressources
7:Winter sports II: Biathlon as a mediated sport
No winter sport has evolved since the 1980s like biathlon, a combination of skiing and target practice. New competitions, changed appearance in the stadiums and in the media have made this sport one of the most popular in Central Europe, Scandinavia, France and so on. The lecture will trace the "birth" of a TV sport and highlight current developments.
Literature: online ressources
8:Tour de France, Wimbledon, Ascot etc. – Summer sport highlights
The European sports calendar contains a whole series of highlights of international and also just national importance in many sports in the summer. Some are popular only in a few countries, others throughout Europe. The lecture will present the "lighthouses" of the sports summer, but also some very special national events. There will be a discussion on the relationship between "media sports" and "fringe sports".

national and international organizations, competitions, transmission rights, Olympic Games and changing media technologies
10:Olympic Games and the Media II

11:Olympic Games: the opening ceremony in Germany and Japan
The opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games celebrate sport, peace and international understanding. They have a fixed ceremonial and a cultural part, in which the host presents itself.
The marching in of the participating nations symbolizes the world as it is politically, culturally and sportingly at that time. The commentaries on this state of affairs in the respective national TV programs are therefore particularly interesting: Interpretations, stereotypes, frames.
