Outline (in English)

This course has three main points. The first point is to study the Japanese modern history through reading and translating English sentences extracted from the Foreign Relations of the United States or the books or articles written by American intellectuals in the early 20th century. The second one is to study the viewpoints on Japan and the Japanese people in modern times from the eyes of the Westerners. The third is to study the cultural exchange and conflicts between different cultures. Thorough this course students obtain ability and skill of critical thinking on the Japanese modern history.
