Outline (in English)

Literary criticism is primarily an act of interpreting literary works (literary texts). Interpretation is an act of fixing a specific context for reading a text and defining the meaning of the text. After learning the elements for making a literary interpretation through questions such as how it differs from a book report, students concretely analyze a text (a British novel) in relation to some cultural and social context. In that process, students learn the basic concepts and keywords necessary to analyze a novel - stories (plots and discourses), characters, narrators and focalizers, images, symbols and allegories, etc. Finally, students discuss one another's interpretations of the literary work treated in class.
