Outline (in English)

In this class, it will focus on the basic features of Anglo-American law such as the jury system, the case law system, and Federal system in the U.S. by using capital cases as examples. The main purpose of this class is to better understand the basic structures of the legal system as a whole including its cultural aspects. It plan to look at recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions and video recordings of actual jury deliberation. Students are expected to prepare each classes by reading assignments for each topic (assignment are mainly written in Japanese but might include English materials. Also, students are expected to print out each assignment and class handout by themselves from this class website.
