Outline (in English)
【Course outline】The aim of this course is to understand the generation of images. 【Learning Objectives】At the end of the course, students are expected to obtain some skills to develp an imaging modarity. 【Learning activities outside of classroom】Before each class meeting, students will be expected to have read the relevant chapter from the text. Your required study time is at least one hour for each class meeting. 【Grading Criteria /Policy】Grading will be decided based on lab reports (80%), and class contribution (20%).

授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
The basic concept of the generation of an image with the interactions between media and waves such as electromagnetic waves is described in this class. The theme of this lecture is to understand imaging techniques consist of several physical phenomena and mathematics.
到達目標Goal
The goal of the class is to understand that how several imaging modalities work and how the mathematical algorithms are used to make an image. The imaging modalities illustrated in this lecture are those used in the practical clinical field. The basics of these modalities are described as well as the cutting edge technologies for each modality. The waves used for imaging are x-rays, gamma rays, electro-magnetic waves and ultrasound. The target modalities are digital radiography, digital mammography, ultrasonic echo, x-ray CT(computed tomography), magnetic resonance imaging, single photon emission CT, and positron emission tomography.
